A nitric acid leak at Austin Powder’s Red Diamond plant in Vinton County raises health, safety, and environmental concerns in the rural Ohio community.

“The plume has really dissipated quite a bit, so we felt like the levels were safe,” Deshaies said. “The concentration anyway in the plume was pretty low.” She said the leak was mostly limited to the plant, but you may want to visit a doctor or emergency room with symptoms like an itchy throat, nose or red eyes.
