Matthew the Raven, a loyal servant of Morpheus, perseveres through the loss in his own manner. In The Sandman Season 2 Episode 11, his dialogue is more subdued but rich. He represents a loyalist—one who clings to the old order and finds the new reality difficult to accept. Matthew doesn’t shun Daniel, but evidently hasn’t accepted him either.
A wake is held to honor Morpheus, as those who loved him pay tribute and each of his brothers and sisters gets a chance to speak. In the end, they welcome the new Dream with open arms, and in doing so, welcome change and move forward with a new Dream.
