Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) claimed to have witnessed Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arresting migrants who were attending immigration court in his Manhattan office building. He accused the agents of “Gestapo like behavior” for detaining the migrants there.

Fear is rising among immigrants in New York following the presence of ICE agents at immigration courthouses in downtown Manhattan. Several arrests have been reported, including of citizens.

Officials had largely steered clear of arrests at immigration courts out of concern that they would deter people from showing up for hearings.

The leadership changes at ICE come as the Trump administration is facing challenges reaching the president’s goal of removing 1 million unauthorized immigrants in his first year.
