Data analyzed by the CBS News Crime Unit shows at least 50 law enforcement officers have been shot in ambush attacks so far this year.

Rockin’ On The River is part of the annual summer concert series in Lorain, but Friday’s concert turned into a benefit when the promoters decided to donate a portion of the proceeds to help the Lorain officers’ loved ones.

Around 4 p.m. Friday, a procession was held from Cleveland to North Ridgeville in honor of Lorain police officer Phillip Wagner.

Residents of Northeast Ohio honored Officer Phillip Wagner in a procession from Cleveland to North Ridgeville, remembering the fallen officer and Marine veteran who was killed in an ambush.

The suspect — Michael Parker, 28, of Lorain — was pronounced dead at the scene after the shooting. According to the Elyria Police Department, officers returned fire during the exchange, which ultimately resulted in Parker sustaining a fatal injury.

As the Lorain community continues to grieve, some told News 5 they found comfort during Friday’s Rockin’ on the River outdoor concert series.

At a candlelight vigil Thursday evening, Acting Police Chief Michael Failing delivered an emotional update to a grieving community gathered to honor and support the officers.
