President Donald Trump is ousting Billy Long from his role as commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service just two months after he was confirmed to the position, three sources familiar told CNN.

It was not immediately clear why Long was dismissed. His quick exit makes him the shortest-tenured IRS commissioner confirmed by the Senate since 1862.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will take over as acting IRS commissioner until a permanent replacement is named.
