Tropical Storm Humberto strengthening as Gabrielle nears Azores, Bahamas system likely to develop
Tropical Storm Humberto is forecast to become a hurricane in the Atlantic, Hurricane Gabrielle is bringing dangerous conditions to the Azores, and a system near the Bahamas has high odds of development.
Humberto – the 8th named storm of the hurricane season – formed Monday afternoon over the central Atlantic and is forecast to become a major (Category 3 or stronger) hurricane by Monday as it turns east of the U.
Meanwhile, the quick-moving Tropical Storm Gabrielle is churning near to the Azores, where a hurricane watch is in force for the entire Portuguese archipelago. At 0900 GMT Friday, the storm was about 145 miles (230 kilometers) east-northeast of Faial Island in the central Azores.
A rare weather setup is forming in the Atlantic, where two tropical systems may develop dangerously close to each other early next week.
