Chinese companies Huawei and SMIC may have a difficult time accessing resources needed to build AI chips, due to Taiwanese export controls.

Taiwan has added China's Huawei and SMIC to its trade blacklist in a move that further aligns it with U.S. trade policy and comes amid tensions with Beijing.

Taiwan has added Huawei and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC) to its export control list, bringing it into line with US trade policy. By including the Chinese chipmakers on its Strategic High-Tech Commodities Entity List, Taiwanese companies will now need to obtain an export license before selling to them.
