Noticing excessive battery drain in recent weeks, Android users on Reddit have been speculating that the Instagram app is responsible. In battery drain comparisons with other apps, Meta’s social media app appeared to be consuming far more of their capacity than it should for the amount of usage.

Google says Instagram's problem with depleting battery levels excessively, and causing phones to get really hot, is cured with new version of the app.

The fix comes in Instagram version 382.0.0.49.84, which you can grab from Google Play now. If you don’t see the option to update, it could be that you’ve already got it. You can check by long-pressing the Instagram app, tapping “App info,” then scrolling to the bottom to look for the version number.
