The tropics are heating up, with Hurricane Gabrielle and Tropical Storm Humberto both churning in the Atlantic as well as a new system that could strengthen and possibly impact the Southeast next week.
FIRST ALERT: Gabrielle has weakened into a post-tropical system, and Humberto has become a hurricane
Earlier this week, we were tracking out Hurricane Gabrielle as moved east across the northern portion of. However, as of Friday morning, this storm has become a post-tropical system, so it is no longer an active system that we are tracking.
Gabrielle is the seventh named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season and the first tropical storm since Tropical Storm Fernand formed Aug. 23.
Humberto is located about 470 miles northeast of the northern Leeward Islands, moving northwestward at 6 mph with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. Hurricane Gabrielle broke a near-month drought in the Tropics.
