Flash floods that swept through Texas over the Fourth of July weekend have left more than 100 people dead and more than a dozen others missing.

Fifty-nine people are dead as a result of the flooding and torrential rains in Kerr County, Texas, Sheriff Larry Leitha said during a Sunday-morning press conference. That tally includes 38 adults and 21 children, Leitha said.

Lt. Col. Ben Baker of the Texas Game Wardens, the state’s parks and wildlife department, deflected other questions about how quickly Kerr County officials responded to the flash flooding, saying officials were “focused on bringing people home.”
