Punxsutawney Phil isn't the only weather-predicting groundhog that enjoys a day of public spotlight. In Ohio, Buckeye Chuck has made his call.

In Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney saw his shadow predicting six more weeks of winter. Groundhog Day is rooted in the Christian holiday Candlemas, the midway point between the winter solstice and spring equinox. During Candlemas, Christians would light candles to predict how long winter would last.

The tradition has been ongoing in the country since 1887 when the residents of Punxsutawney watched Phil, the weather-forecasting groundhog, venture out of Gobbler's Knob. As part of Ohio's tradition, Buckeye Chuck visits WMRN AM radio station every Feb. 2. This year, the event will be held at the Marion County Fairgrounds.

It could soon be time to put away your winter garb because Buckeye Chuck, Ohio’s very own groundhog, did not see his shadow. The famed Marion resident made an appearance on Sunday morning at about 7:40a.

Winter isn’t over yet—at least according to Punxsutawney Phil. On Groundhog Day 2025, the famous weather-predicting groundhog saw his shadow, signaling six more weeks of cold weather. Since 1886, Phil has predicted extended winter 107 times out of 128 recorded forecasts,
