Following a shooting at Minneapolis' Boom Island Park earlier this week that left a woman dead and six others injured, the city's park board says it will be adding extra security measures starting Friday night.

The MPRB will increase Park Police presence at Boom Island Park after a fatal shooting, stressing park safety and additional measures like patrols and cameras.

The nighttime violence at the popular Mississippi River park is the second burst of gun violence in the city in recent weeks. Mayor Jacob Frey said on social media the city must “keep incidents like this rare.
