New athletic director J Batt plans to take a broad overview of Michigan State's sports program when he arrives, but football will be his top priority.

Batt, 43, who has been the athletic director at Georgia Tech since October 2022, was announced Monday as the next leader of Michigan State athletics. He replaces Alan Haller, who university president Kevin Guskiewicz fired in May after less than four years on the job.

Tom Izzo has made a lot of gut checks in his 30-year coaching career. He and Michigan State may have made their biggest yet in hiring J Batt.
