Mohammad Sharafoddin, his wife and young son managed to make it out of Afghanistan as refugees nine years ago, at one point walking 36 hours in a row over mountain passes.

The travel ban goes into effect Monday, leaving many to fear a future in which they can't visit family or loved ones are unable to escape dire circumstances in their home countries.
