In total there have been 57 confirmed cases of the infection caused by the "flesh-eating" bacteria, Vibrio vulnificus, in the U.S. this year.

The U.S. is seeing a rise in cases of Vibrio vulnificus, a deadly "flesh-eating" bacteria found in warm coastal waters especially in Florida and Louisiana.

At least eight people along the Gulf Coast have died and 22 others have been infected with Vibrio vulnificus bacteria.
