The U.S. is seeing a rise in cases of Vibrio vulnificus, a deadly "flesh-eating" bacteria found in warm coastal waters especially in Florida and Louisiana.

At least eight people along the Gulf Coast have died and 22 others have been infected with Vibrio vulnificus bacteria.

Deaths from “flesh-eating” bacteria are on the rise across the southeastern coasts of the U.S. At least five people in Florida, four in Louisiana and one in the Outer Banks have died this year from infections that can cause necrotizing wounds.
