En route to London’s Gatwick, Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff yesterday near the Ahmedabad Airport. The flight AI171 crashed 1.5 km away from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in a residential area in Meghani Nagar. All except one of the 242 passengers on board perished in the tragic accident.
Air India has confirmed 241 of the 242 people aboard flight AI171 died in this morning's Ahmedabad crash, with British passenger Vishwash Kumar Ramesh the sole survivor. The news comes as three UK nationals who were among the victims of the plane crash were named.
There was a loud noise just 30 seconds after takeoff and then the plane crashed, said Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the only survivor of the Air India flight AI171 that crashed in Ahmedabad today.
