Mariah May is officially a WWE superstar. Former AEW women's world champion May debuted on Tuesday's episode of NXT, confirming speculation that she left All Elite Wrestling to sign with WWE. May's debut came amid turmoil over who would challenge NXT women's champion Jacy Jayne.

May found plenty of success in AEW, winning both the Women's Owen Hart Cup and the Women's World Championship last year. Her last match came at Revolution in March, when she lost to "Timeless" Toni Storm in a rematch for the AEW Women's World Championship.

While some fans may see it as a step down for a one-time AEW Women's Champion and one of AEW's most featured players to be joining the NXT roster, this move could well be a smart one for both Mariah May and for the wider WWE.
