TikTok recently banned search results for the popular weight-loss hashtag, citing a growing number of posts that violated community guidelines.

While TikTok hasn’t said exactly why it’s blocked SkinnyTok at this moment in time, it comes after the platform banned individual creators like Liv Schmidt, an American model and influencer known for promoting low-calorie diets and hunger-suppression tips. She’s since moved her content to Instagram.

TikTok is preventing users searching for "skinnytok" - a hashtag which critics say directs people towards content which "idolises extreme thinness." Content associated with the hashtag includes videos showing people's work-out routines or what they eat in a day.
