Tesla's robotaxi launch could pose a challenge to Uber's progress in the autonomous ride-sharing market, according to analysts.
The company is considering June 12th as a possible date to launch its robotaxi service in Austin, Bloomberg reports — though that date could change. Tesla has yet to publicly announce a date, nor has it clarified who will be able to access the vehicles.
Tesla's June robotaxi debut in Austin is a go, but it will be invite only, a Morgan Stanley analyst, who visited the company's Palo Alto office, said.
The most recent sales come from Ira Ehrenpreis and Kimbal Musk. Ehrenpreis, who is the founder of venture capital firm DBL Partners, filed Form 144 for the sale of 477,572 Tesla shares worth around $162.1 million. The sale comes from the exercise of options.
Austin city departments say they have not received the emergency planning guides they have asked for, and Tesla hasn't specified what level of autonomy its robotaxi vehicles will be using at launch.
