The Cotopaxi volcano provides a stunning landscape. If you don’t have a car it is easier to organise via an agency. The hotel called the agency for us and since we don’t stop for lunch we paid 90$ f…Full review by mariellette2022

Sure. But I’d suggest two things - first, rather than being able to walk 10 miles, see if you have the fitness to walk 6 hours uphill as that’s what you’ll be doing. (Not sure how much opportunity you’ll have for that in Florida though!). Second, give yourself as much opportunity to acclimatise as possible. I’ve read of people flying in from sea level, spending two days in Quito, the night at the refuge and then the ascent. I think this is semi crazy. Instead think about a week or so - Ecuador is one hell of a cool county and if you’re already making the flight you may as well check it out (the Quilotoa loop for example is a perfect chance to acclimatise and one of our favourite things we did on our 6 month trip) Best of luck and do let me know how you get on!
For those of you who have already been, roughly how cold does it get? girlfriend and I are in Ecuador and want to go Cotopaxi (not summit though, just around 5000m day trip) but don't have winter jackets with us, we have long sleeves, hoodies, light jackets, if we layer up and buy gloves/hats do you think this will suffice?? thanks for your help!
Hi, I am planning to take the bus from Quito to Latacunga and stop at Cotopaxi National Park. Are there always guides waiting with 4x4? and is it possible to leave some heavy bags in their cars while hicking up the volcano? many thanks.

Hi . I am not sure as I booked the trip from the Hotel and we were picked up from the Magic Bean in Quito .we travelled up to the snow line of Cotopaxi . We didn't hike to the refuge we stayed at the snow line . There is a visitor centre about a mile away . You may be able to leave your bags there The journey to the snow line is a hell of a hike . and it is a dirt track road . I suggest you get to the snow line by transport then trek up to the refuge . It would be too much to do both in one day
HI, is the volcano in constant eruption and the snow is that only in winter ? many Thanks
