Not worth visiting. Has a nice view of the City of Salerno but that is about it. We walked up from the City, which takes about an hour from the old city. A good portion of the path is on a crow…Full review by Zbirdie

We would like to visit this castle and I keep seeing that you can get there on "Bus 19." However, I can't find any info on "Bus 19!" I am looking for the route, stops, schedules etc and can I buy bus tickets on the bus or do I need to go to a station? I see you can get the bus/buy tickets at Piazza xxv Maggio, but our hotel is actually closer to the castle and I was hoping we could catch the bus closer to our hotel rather than walking to the Piazza. Thanks!

Hi, I can provide 2 answers..... The official answer is that you can purchase the tickets way ahead of time at a news/tobacco agent (mostly downtown), at the bus station, or at the TI center in Salerno. Then you stamp the ticket once you board the bus at the stamping machine (usually located mid-bus). The unofficial answer is that the bus driver is only there to drive, nothing else. You just get on the bus, preferably from the back according to the Italian way. The driver will not ask you to pay nor will he ask for ticket. There are very rarely "auditors" that check to see if you have purchased a ticket, but I have never seen one and if you observe the Italians, 98% of them do not have tickets either. I have also experienced a bus ride that was so crammed full, that no one could possibly stamp their ticket. I would recommend if you pass by a place selling tickets when you arrive in Salerno, purchase a couple tickets. If not conveniient, just go for it. #19 stops right in front of the castle path...watch for the very small blue rectular sign that simply states "CSTP" denoting stop. Stops on that side of the street denotes which direction the bus is going.

That's a great question and unfortunately not one I can answer. The website says they are opened from 9-5 Tuesday through Sunday, but they were closed when we went. Best to ask when you are in Salerno. Even if it's closed, the views are spectacular and you can walk around the outside.
