We had high hopes for this trail, but it ended up being one of the worst trails we hiked during our Alaska trip. Don't get me wrong -- it is a very peaceful trail with good view at the end, but compa…Full review by FiveTrout

There are no specified trail hours. We visited during mid-August, with sunset around 945pm. I personally wouldn't be on the trail after sunset due to the number of brown bears in the area...their scent of smell is far better than our sense of sight in the dark. We learned of this awesome brown bear viewing site while on a kayaking tour in Seward. We left Seward around 615pm and still arrived to the Russian River Falls in enough time to see numerous bears. Enjoy!
Yes, you can. It is a popular fishing spot for salmon. You should review the regulations (no bait allowed, etc) and be prepared to possibly run into a bear.
We are in Seward and will be driving to Homer tomorrow. We thought of stopping in the way hike to the Russian River Falls to see the salmon jumping (and maybe a bear?), but aren’t sure if it’s too late in the season to see the salmon. Can someone advise? Thanks!
