ABOUT OUR PINE ISLAND PARADISE Pine Island Paradise Cottage is in the center of Matlacha Village, with the bay on both sides of the road in walking distance to many really good restaurants, art galleries, boat rentals, bait shops and ‘The Fishingest Bridge’ -a name given by the Guinness book of records because no matter what time of day or night there is always someone fishing on it. You can also fish from our own dock where there is always great fishing! There is also a story that Matlacha was made famous by Elvis Presley, the movie ‘Follow that Dream’ , was based on the book Pioneers Go Home, written from the experiences of the first white people to settle in Matlacha, but we understand that it was actually filmed on the Sanibel Causeway. Matlacha resembles the old style Key West, rustic and quaint, so many areas like Matlacha are disappearing in the name of progress but Matlacha has been deemed Historical so as to preserve its unique qualities.
