We had the requisite sunset cruise on a large cat earlier in the week, but wanted to do something that felt more like real sailing. Brian took us out on his Hobie cat for a 2 hour run along the west … Full review by Getlostinfrance

A nice relaxing beach but the waves may be too strong for many. We have visited several times over the years and it’s great for snorkelling. Full review by Dreinog

I found this beach disappointing. It’s very small. Not a good walking beach. There are many large still rocks and large floating pieces of coral that make swimming difficult and sometimes painful. Th… Full review by Quest50293577604
Hi. I am travelling to Barbados in January. We are trying to decide between tamarind and crystal cove. Which has a nicer beach. Is it a massive difference between the two because the price is. I will be travelling with my wife and 1 year old daughter. Which out of the two hotels has Nicer pools also.

Crystal Cove and it has an amazing beach and right next door to the Cliff restaurant
Hi, can anyone give me an up to date view of the conditions of the West Coast beaches. We stayed at Tamarind in March 2018 and loved it BUT it was tricky getting into the sea due to broken coral and lots of rocks and sharp stones.

We didn’t stay at the Tamarind, but we walked the sandy beach and found it to be narrow and non-existent in places, especially at high tide. It doesn’t sound like it’s improved since your visit.
Can you still walk from The Tamerind along Payne’s Beach? When we went 2 years ago (2016) a large portion of the beach had washed away, making it impassable.. Thanks Paul

Walking the beach isn't as easy anymore. Can't go far at high tide
We've been to Barbados before-stayed at the Butterfly Hotel in Oistins but didn't go any further than Bridgetown. Now thinking of going to the Halcyon Palm Hotel St.James Parish. Have read the reviews which have mixed feelings but many say it is basic-dirty-not well equipped-sun loungers broken-dirty round the pool-temperamental wifi-10 mins to the sister hotel-have to drag your cases up there to check in/check out? How far is it to Bridgetown? Is it close to the beach? Are the beaches nice/safe? Are there shops & bars close by? Is there any WIFI once out of the hotel/close by? It's a long way to go to be disappointed-should we try it for 3/4 weeks-or go back to the Butterfly?

I can't comment on the hotel as we did a vacation rental south of where you're staying. If I remember correctly, that hotel is just outside of Holetown, and there's plenty of restaurants and cafes that offer Wi-Fi in that area; I don't recall anything beachside that had Wi-Fi. You'll be about a 40 minute taxi drive away from the airport without traffic delays; probably about 30-35 minutes away from Bridgetown without traffic delays. We stayed on Paynes Bay Beach for over a week last spring and loved it, but we're not your typical Western tourists who demand creature comforts either. We've stayed all over the Caribbean and this is one our favorite spots to vacation. The beach was beautiful and safe; there's good snorkeling and sea turtles were common. My one complaint with regards to the beach is the locals trying to sell you services and trinkets, but a simple "no" will suffice in sending them away. If you don't have beach chairs/loungers you'll want to rent some down at the beach. My advice is to ask someone at the hotel who'd they recommend to rent from and only use that person during your stay, they'll help keep the other vendors away from you.
