Great beach with crystal clear warm water with golden sand. Lots of sunbeds reasonably priced, beach big enough to find you're own spot. Plenty of food and drink options on the road behind the beach.Full review by paulkay62

We are looking to visit with our 2 children at the end of May. They are keen to do water activities such as snorkelling, swimming and paddle boards. I have read that the sea is red flagged most days throughout the whole of the low season. Can anyone please advise? Obviously we will not swim if it’s not safe.

Kata beach is generally safe, and there are plenty of lifeguards about. But like most of Phuket, you do get regular thunderstorms, and when it is stormy the waves get bigger and the currents get stronger. When it gets dangerous the lifeguards put the red flags up. But sometimes it is only for a few hours, it really depends on the weather which can be quite changeable in May as it is the start of the rainy season. So, depending on how long you stay, you will probably get some calm sunny days and some rainy / stormy days.
