It depends on how the child responds to horror content, I think most 12 year olds would be fine with this museum (and I saw younger visitors during my time there). There are sound effects and an animatronic which may not be suitable for a child who is sensitive to horror elements. The basement is the scariest part of the museum, and many people will avoid it.
