A lot of random artwork. Some political in nature. Other just plan creepy. If you go with an open mind it is pretty cool. I wouldn't want to get in an argument with these people though :-) Full review by ptm2
There is a group of 16 of us planning to go to Salvation Mtn. Would arranging a tour be best to see East Jesus or, alternatively, just wander around on our own?
Not sure if anyone will notice my follow up question in between the answers, so I'll ask it as a new question: thanks all for the advise, much appreciated. However though, due to work it seems like june will be the only time we can go... and I really want to visit this site. I have some flexibility in my schedule though, do you guys think that going in the early morning or evening could be an option to make the heat more bearable?

Also a small personal fan can help if your clothes/hair are wet down... If you go on site daytime and stay in a/c at night, you ought be fine...
I've visited Salvation mountain on our trip to the US last year, would like to visit this place as wel next year. Last time we were there in April, next year we'll be there in June, I'm wondering if: 1. There are going to be any artists living there? 2. It'll be fun in the hot sun? (out there in the dessert?) I think I remember reading somewhere that most locals move out of slab city during the summer, because its to hot, true or false?

I can't answer your 1st question; some people do bring their RV's to Slab City during the winter & leave in the spring, but the artists may be there all year (you'd have to try to contact them). However, it would most likely be very hot in June in the desert (especially for someone like you, coming from a cool place). Most days would be at least 100F, 110F would not be unusual...the hottest day last month was over 120F in some of the desert cities...and that's in the shade...and there isn't much shade in the desert. The heat can be dangerous. If you are coming in June, I'd recommend spending most of your time nearer the coast or at higher elevations (eg., mountains, Yosemite, Sequoia, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Lake Tahoe and many other spots)
