This was fun even though the weather was damp and cold. We did make reservations for the tram ride, available certain days only. There was a park ranger who drove and we had an excellent historian, D…Full review by Claudia10229

Has anyone ever been bitten or had a close encounter with any of the snakes? Do the snakes try to stay away from people? Are snakes usually on the trail; I seen a picture is a snake of the boardwalk.

Yes. There are snakes at the refuge. I did not see them, thankfully. Check with the naturalists at the visitor's center so you are informed and know what to look out for. There are seemingly an infinite number of snake species, and without knowing which are hazardous, and which are native to the area, it is all just a guess. Unless- you are as well-informed as they are. It is truly a beautiful area, especially for enjoying nature. That being said, please be informed and stay safe! Enjoy your trip!
How long is the walk and do you see lots of animals? Is it good for small children?

There are a variety of trails to walk depending on where you want walk and what you want to see. I would not recommend any to little children, this is not like a zoo where a lot of animals will be seen and may not hold the attention of small kids. As far as what kind of animals will depend on what time of year. This park is part of the migratory route for many birds. There are the normal variety of small critters as well as deer, boar, turtles, and possibly a bear. Keep in mind it is a WILDlife park and some of the animals can be dangerous.

I do not clam but I am told you can near Lynhaven inlet just south of the public boat launch. Should go at low tide of course. The inlet is a 30 min drive from SANDBRIDGE because you have to go through the city of a Virginia Beach to get there. It's worth the drive.
