We last visited many many years ago before the trees were devastated by disease. It is good to see so many new trees that have been planted and in years to come it will only get better. We had memori… Full review by Eucryphia

I traveled on the Canal du Midi on a Penichette 1160FB from Locaboat in the fall of 2019. Can confirm this boat did not utilize the holding tank, toilet effluent was discharged directly into the canal, which I understand is a general practice of long standing on the canal. We never experienced a bad odor from the canal. We did have a large dispenser of waterless hand cleaner handy for everyone on the boat to use whenever we handled anything that came into contact with canal water (such as dock lines). The positives of the trip far outweighed this issue.
Q:
What did you spend on fuel for a week of cruising?
A:
Companies charge rates depending on the type of boat and motor and the hours the motor was turned on. Last time in a 13 meter boat with air conditioning we paid 350 euro.

we are 2 retired couples (includes 1 very experienced sailor) considering a one week LeBoat charter beginning in Castelnaudary and ending in Trebes or Homps. Any impressions on the +/-25k between Trebes & Homps? Also, I've read LOTS of opinions about the speeds of the boats at full throttle - between 2 and 4.5; doesn't sound like a lot BUT one is twice as fast as the other and it makes big difference in planning. Thanks Frank & Gayle.

Hi , sorry not going to be able to be very much help here. We went east from Le Someil to Beziers. I’ve done a lot of canals in the UK and always work on basis of 3mph average and 3 or 4 locks per hour. Translating that to France I would suggest assume about 4 kph ( to allow for slowing down past moored boats) and 3 locks per hour. So if there’s 8 km of canal with 6 locks - you should allow 4 hours. Take time to enjoy it! Bon journee
